The Dodecanese
The Dodecanese
The Dodecanese are a group of 15 larger plus 150 smaller Greek islands in the Southeastern Aegean sea. From the 150 smaller islands only 26 are inhabited. They all have a rich history and many of even the smaller islands boast dozens of Byzantine churches and castles.
The islands line like a chain along the coast of Turkey and therefore they are a very popular destination because it is very easy to visit Turkey for a day.
If you want to explore the lesser-known, unspoiled destinations than you should really bring a visit to the islands Leros or Pserimos, but for a more cosmopolitan vibe, you should visit the islands Rhodos and Kos. The most famous Dodecanese islands are Kalymnos, Karpathos, Lipsi, Symi, Kos, Rhodes and Chalki.
